Bendigo Regional SCI Network - April 2016
Discovering the Power in Me
The Bendigo SCI Regional Network group enjoyed some good weather, good companionship and positive outcomes after they took part in the short course, Discovering the Power In Me (DPM).
The course ran across three Tuesdays, over three weeks at the Bendigo Neighbourhood Hub and ended with a social BBQ to talk about what they had learned and how it had helped build stronger networks between them.
This video-based workshop was designed by the Pacific Institute in Washington, USA specifically for people with SCI, to help frame thinking towards a positive mindset, working towards incremental goal-setting and increasing self-efficacy.
Its purpose is to help build hope, strength, resiliency, and self-efficacy in people with disabilities and their families in order to re-assert control over their lives.
“Makes me realise that I have the tools for positive thought and the course helped me stay in touch with these"
"The booklet will be very useful to go back over now and then to reinforce positive thinking''
The course is resourced and facilitated by people with lived experience of SCI, and for the Bendigo Network group it was facilitated by Naz, Spire team leader.
Overall the group found the sessions informative and valuable, learning new ways of thinking, in taking control, building hope, resilience and confidence for the future through understanding how the mind works.
Participants were also provided with course materials including a workbook, video and audio resources, lunch and refreshments.
