Shepparton SCI Regional Network Meeting - August 2017

30 August, 2017

Attendees at the August Shepparton SCI Regional Network meeting were joined by Sionnie Kelly from the local Shepparton News for interviews and photo opportunities! The group was excited to see the interviews featured in the August edition of the Shepparton news, who have been active in promoting the SCI community and SCI Regional Network events.

For the meeting, group members discussed various topics from travel to shopping and sporting events. Members advised one another to visit a travel agent when booking a holiday, as opposed to booking online. This will ensure all your needs are met upon arrival at your destination.

It was recommended that individuals carry all travel documents and keep a record of any correspondence with airlines. One member explained how - after a delayed flight and almost missing a connecting flight – she was dealt with much more quickly by airport staff after she produced an email that had to been sent to her from airport management explaining her situation.

Members also discussed attending sporting events and venues like the MCG. Often these venues provide excellent facilities for those with SCI. For example, the MCG, Etihad Stadium and Kardinia Park cater well for wheelchairs and parking, and facilities like toilets and food venues are always on the same level, eliminating the need to travel up and down elevators.
