Shepparton SCI Regional Network July 2017
Andrew discussed the cause and nature of pain as a brain process. He spoke about pain management techniques like making links and winding down the central nervous system, as well as how to avoid unhelpful thinking styles and when to consider behavioral interventions.
Attendees shared their experiences and stories regarding pain and how they manage it, and this story-telling highlighted just how unique individual pain can be in terms of symptoms and severity.
Dr Sinclair showed the group how to best monitor pain by identifying and reflecting on the triggers, sensations, emotions, thoughts and behaviours relating to the pain. It’s also important to note the level of pain during an episode, and what eases or exacerbates the pain.
The Shepparton Regional Network would like to welcome new attendees from July: Claire, a Disability Support Worker for AQA in Shepparton, and Noeleen, a nurse at Banksia Lodge Retirement Village. Claire and Noeleen were keen to learn as much as possible from the pain management sessions, to gain a better understanding of their clients. We would also like to welcome back Trevor and Karen.
The next Shepparton Regional Network meeting will be held August 2. Attendees are encouraged to share personal ‘out-of-the-box’ experiences or adventures that are a little unique or different. Anyone interested in sharing their thoughts and opinions are encouraged to attend.
