Shepparton SCI Regional Network Meeting - November 2017
The November Shepparton SCI Regional Network meeting was a social BBQ hosted by group member, Peter, in Rochester.
The meeting had no set agenda, so it was an opportunity for Peter to showcase some fantastic toys and equipment; which included demonstrating his ParaGolfer - an all-terrain wheelchair that places the user in an upright position to allow for a more conventional golf swing.
Peter demonstrated how he uses the ParaGolfer with only one arm to swing the golf club (as the other arm is used to steady himself on the machine).
Recently, Peter has played at the Metropolitan Golf Club in Melbourne, Echuca and Rochester! He even has an implement to pick up the golf ball and place the tee and ball in the ground.
A few of the female group members also had a go on the ParaGolfer - or ‘Big Bertha’ as Peter calls it – and it wasn’t as easy as it seemed! He also showed the group his accessible truck and how he gets in and out of it.
The group welcomed Fiona who has recently joined AQA as the NDIS Service Development Officer. Her role is to assist with NDIS meetings and to help AQA members complete their applications.
A big thank you to Peter and Meran for sharing their home and providing the BBQ lunch, and to AQA for the salads!
