Geelong SCI Regional Network Meeting - August 2018
For the August meeting, the Geelong SCI Regional Network met at the Deakin University Waterfront to be part of an exciting project that explores how mainstream services can better support people living with a spinal cord injury. The Geelong SCI Regional Network first enjoyed a social lunch at the Waterfront Kitchen and welcomed back returning members of the Network.
Guided by two Deakin University Researchers, the group had a lively and productive discussion on services that stated they were ‘accessible’ but in reality were not, the need for consistent rules and community consultation when local government plans to build something new, and the need to work together with medical staff to promote greater awareness and understanding of people living with a spinal cord injury.

The group also shared their experiences and ideas on how to improve physical health services, transport, public facilities, and staff attitudes and knowledge. Overall it was a great discussion, with every participant providing feedback on issues important to them. The Network looks forward to seeing the results from Deakin University’s valuable project.
