Ballarat SCI Regional Network Meeting - February 2018
The first meeting of the New Year was held in February at the Lake View Hotel, with the group welcoming Jack, a new member. Having not met since November last year, the group decided that in the future they would meet in January, as they found the break between meetings too long. Since they last caught up, Alan and Joy have been busy packing for their move; having bought a block of land in Bendigo in which they will build.
Barbara shared her experience of obtaining a $290 reduction on her car registration through the Vehicle Assessment Signatory Scheme (VASS). This scheme was announced on October 12, 2017 by the Victorian State Government, and is aimed at people with disabilities; allowing them to apply for a 100% concession on their vehicle registration fee of $290.
To be eligible, a vehicle must be fitted with hand controls for accelerating and braking, and have undergone a Vehicle Assessment Signatory Scheme (VASS) report, stating the vehicle has been significantly modified. Drivers seeking the registration concession will need to provide a Vehicle Assessment Signatory Scheme (VASS) certification to VicRoads prior to registering their vehicle. The VASS report cost may differ. You can find out more about it here.
Overall the group had a great time catching up after quite a long break and look forward to what the year ahead may bring!
