Shepparton SCI Regional Network Meeting – February 2018

12 February, 2018

The first meeting of 2018 for the Shepparton SCI Regional Network was held on February 7, at The Peppermill Restaurant. The meeting was a casual one, with no set agenda. Wayne, who has been in a chair for 40+ years talked about how he and his family adapted to being in a chair and not being afraid to try anything: from the early days, of going camping (that’s right, in a tent!), to recently taking delivery of their third purpose-built caravan. Wayne never let his SCI stop him from continuing farming; having adapted the tractor to enable him to continue doing tractor work and other miscellaneous jobs around the farm. The group members are keen to see how he has overcome the obstacles he has faced, and will be taking a trip to Benalla to see his modified van.

Some of the suggestions and ideas for future meetings were:

Visits from:
• Occupational Therapist (OT) from GV Health
• Podiatrist
• Specialist wound care nurse from GV Health
• Nutritionist
• Travel consultant who specialises in disability travel
• Lawyer/solicitor

• Lunch at the Olivehouse in Kialla

In other news, there is a Wheelchair Rugby Try-out Day coming up in Echuca on February 24, from 2PM – 4PM. All are welcome to come along and give wheelchair rugby a go (plenty of spare chairs available) or just watch. This will take part at the Echuca Basketball stadium, which is located on 244 High Street, Echuca. For more information or queries, please contact Christian at 0402322851 or [email protected]
