Geelong Regional SCI Network Meeting – March 2018
For the March SCI Regional Network meeting, the Geelong group braved the wind and met up at the Royal Geelong Yacht Club, which has accessible facilities and a beautiful view of the beach!
This month’s guest speakers from Sailability introduced the group to their amazing program - “an entry level program for people of all abilities to get into sailing and all activities at clubs.” The program welcomes anyone with a disability to learn how to sail safely with experienced staff and volunteers, and provides safety vests, hoists and slings.
Unfortunately due to the windy weather, the group was unable to observe participants getting on the waters. Instead, the group was shown around the impressive boat yard, and looked at the different types of sailing boats available for Sailability participants. Many members of the group are now interested in trying out sailing in warmer weather later this year!
Sailability is available in many other areas around Victoria, including Shepparton, Bendigo, Ballarat and Metro Melbourne. So for those who want to feel the thrill of speeding faster than their wheelchair can handle, then sailing may be for you! You can find out more via their website here.
