Ballarat SCI Regional Network Meeting - November 2018

3 December, 2018

In November, the Ballarat SCI Regional Network met for lunch and a catch up at the Groove Train Café in Delacombe, and then went to watch a movie of their choice at the Showbiz Cinema.

While having lunch, the Network also discussed exciting activities for 2019.  A few of the ideas included meeting with the Geelong Community Network (either in Geelong or halfway) and doing more hands-on activities while the weather is warm. The group also gave suggestions to The Groove Train café’s staff to improve the venue’s outdoor and indoor accessibility to all community members, such as having a better ramp to access the venue and having tables where the legs do not stop wheelchairs from going under the table. The Network hopes to continue promoting better accessibility in the Ballarat region as they try new places for their meetings.

After a productive lunch, the group had a choice to watch a movie at the Showbiz Cinema. It is a fully accessible cinema for people with physical disabilities, and is recognised with the Shane Everard/Matt Mattson Memorial Award for being active in seeking accessibility in Ballarat. If you are in the area, it is highly encouraged to watch a movie at the Showbiz Cinema and see what makes it a genuinely accessible entertainment venue.

For December’s meeting, everyone is looking forward to finishing the year with a joint BBQ with the Bendigo SCI Regional Network in Daylesford!
