Geelong SCI Regional Network Meeting - September 2018
For the September meeting, the Geelong SCI Regional Network met at the lovely Royal Geelong Yacht Club to welcome Kate from Barwon Disability Resource Council (BDRC). The BDRC is an organisation that advocates for the rights and interests of people with a disability. Advocacy can be helpful to make your views heard, to access information, and explore your choices and options.
The Network enjoyed the informal discussion with Kate about the different types of advocacy, and how BDRC can assist community members with their advocacy needs. Kate discussed the importance of advocating for one’s needs and also provided community resources for the group.
The Network were also impressed by BDRC’s Access Map of Geelong city, which shows where one can access certain accessible facilities, including toilets, parking, recharge points, and even the gradients of paths across the city. A link to the map is found here: https://www.bdrc.org.au/access-map
Afterwards, the group enjoyed a lovely lunch while overlooking the waters.
